Welsh 3000's Mountains in 3 Days

2. Welsh 3000's in 3 days - Snowdonia

Monday 8 May, Tuesday 9 May, Wednesday 10 May 2023

The Welsh 3000's Mountains of Northern Snowdonia include the popular ascent of Snowdon and the lesser known but magnificent tops of the Glyder's and Carnedd's. We aim to cover an area each day via circular walks to visit as many of the peaks that are 3000 feet and above covered in the famous Welsh 3000's challenge walk or race.  Weather permitting, our route each day will be approximately as follows:

Day 1 - Snowdon Range - Ascent on Rhyd-Ddu Path, Snowdon and Garnedd Ugain. Return, Snowdon Ranger path via Clogwyn Du'r Arddu - Approximate distance is 10 miles, Approximate height gain is 3632ft.

Day 2 - Glyder range - Ascent of Y Garn from Ogwen Cottage, Glyder Fawr, Glyder Fach, (Optional route out and back to Tryfan involving easy scrambling) Return to Ogwen Cottage. Approximate distance is 8 miles, Approximate height gain is 4938ft.

Day 3- Carnedd range - Ascent of Pen y Ole Wen from Ogwen valley, Carnedd Dafydd, Carnedd Llewelyn. Return via Pen Yr Helgi Du- Approximate distance is 9.5 miles, Approximate height gain is 3490ft.

There is also the option to cover more peaks each day via linear walks involving bus / car sharing / car parking at each end.

Each walk involves paths that are rough and stony in places with some steep sections of loose stones, and some boulder fields to cross. There will be some very easy scrambling involved but avoids the classic scramble routes such as North Ridge of Tryfan and Crib Goch on Snowdon.  It can be wet and boggy in other places. You therefore need to be confident to walk at a reasonable pace over that type of terrain. The walk is suitable for people with a good level of fitness, previous mountain experience or experience walking with us in the Peak District, and confidence on steep ground that could be slippery underfoot. Should weather conditions be unsuitable to be up in the mountains, an alternative guided walk will be offered in the local area.

The cost to join this guided 3-day walk is £100 per person, based on a maximum of 5 people per guide.
