Saturday 22 January 2022.
A guided walk as part of a small group in the White Peak area of the Peak District. Dovedale is one of the most famous limestone gorges of The White Peak and is a popular tourist destination. Our guided walk takes you away from the main path in the bottom of the valley, to explore the beautiful hills on both sides.
Dependent on weather conditions, highlights of the walk will include ascents of Thorpe Cloud and Baley Hill in the morning with a lunch stop at the pretty riverside hamlet of Milldale. In the afternoon we will take a path towards Stanshope, wander down Hall Dale before ascending through woodland to eventually reach the summit of Bunster Hill. The descent from Bunster Hill follows a ridge with fine views over the surrounding countryside. We finish with a stroll through the village of Ilam, built in an Alpine style and a visit to Ilam Hall and Park before returning over fields to the car park.
A strenuous walk of around 10.5/16.5km with approx 800 metres of ascent/descent, some of which is steep. If winter conditions are poor we may have to adapt the route accordingly.
The cost is £38 per person. Please book and pay below.
We meet at 9:15am to be ready for a 9:30am start in the main public car park at the southern end of Dovedale. It is accessed from the road between the villages of Thorpe and Ilam. The nearest Post Code is DE6 2AY but that won't take you to the exact spot. The car park is privately owned and costs £3.50 per day.
If you would like to stay locally the night before or after this walk, the villages of Thorpe, Ilam, Tissington, or the town of Ashbourne are nearby. See our accommodation page for further information.
For greater flexibility, why not do this as a private guided walk on a day of your choice, either on your own or with a group of friends or family?
