Saturday 7 January 2023.
A lovely winter walk with a small group and your guide which takes in Padley Gorge, Millstone Edge, Higger Tor and Burbage Edge.
After walking through the pleasant grounds of the National Trust owned Longshaw Lodge, we descend to the fairy tale woodland of Padley Gorge and explore the beautiful stream, moorland, millstone quarries and rocks around the upper part of the Gorge. Our walk then takes us along Millstone Edge which has one of the most stunning views to be seen in the Peak District! We climb gradually on to our highest point, Higger Tor and also explore a hill top called Carl Walk, reputed to be an Iron age fort. From Higger Tor, our route follows the long gritstone escarpment of Burbage edge via Burbage brook all the way back to Longshaw.
The walk is about 9 miles/14.5 km with about 900 feet/280 metres of ascent.
The cost is £38 per person. Please book and pay below.
We meet at Longshaw at 9.15am for a 9.30am start.
The meeting point is Longshaw National Trust, Woodcroft Car Park off the B6055, 200 yards south of junction with the A625 (Fox House Inn). This is a 'Pay and Display' car park and costs £5.00 for four hours or more, or free for National Trust members.
Joining the walk by train? Provided we’ve got enough spaces in our vehicles, we can pick you up and return you to Grindleford train station which is close by - just let us know when you book. We don't charge for this as we are keen to promote use of public transport and help reduce traffic in the Peak District National Park.
If you would like to stay locally the night before or after this walk, the village of Hathersage is nearby and has a selection of B&Bs, inns, and self catering accommodation. Visit our Accommodation Page.
