Saturday 16th July and Sunday 17th July, 2022.
Enjoy a weekend of getting to know the best of Kinder Scout. This unique and amazing plateau offers a variety of walks and terrain to explore. We choose two contrasting areas of hill and moorland, including a visit to Kinder Downfall, the rocky Northern Edges and an exploration to the very heart of the plateau. There is also the option of joining us at Hathersage Youth Hostel for the weekend, see below for details. Please note these walks involve steep ascents, easy scrambling and traversing boggy ground. It is essential you have adequate hiking footwear and a good level of fitness.
Saturday 16th July Guided Walk
Edale, Grindsbrook Clough, Kinder Plateau, Kinder Downfall, Pennine Way, Jacobs Ladder and return to Edale.
This is a classic Kinder Scout adventure starting with an easy scramble up the side of Grindsbrook Clough. We then traverse across the boggy plateau via Kinder Gates and follow the River Kinder to the waterfall. Our return route follows the Pennine Way and descends via Jacobs Ladder packhorse route to Edale. The distance is about 15 km/9.5 miles with approximately 450 metres /1476 feet of ascent.
Sunday 17th July Guided Walk
Edale, Ringing Roger, Blackden Brook, Seal Edge, Kinder Plateau ( aircraft wreck), Grindslow Knoll and return to Edale.
This walk allows us to visit the quieter side of Kinder Scout by following the Northern edges. The walk explores the impressive gritstone rock formations of Blackden Brook and Seal edge where the views are dramatic and extensive. A traverse across the boggy plateau via a World War Two aircraft wreck brings us back to the Southern end of Kinder Scout and our descent to Edale, via Grindslow Knoll. The distance is about 12km/7.5 miles with approximately 432 metres /1417 feet of ascent.
The cost for the weekend is £76.00. Or you can book Saturday or Sunday for £38.00 per day.
