Navigation Discovery Workshops

Registered National Navigation Scheme tutors, Rachel Bolton and Richard Tower offer a range of workshops for novice, intermediate and more advanced navigators in the Peak District. Navigation 'Refresher Days' - Peak District

Done some map reading but need to brush up? Or just wanting to build your confidence and further your skills? This might be the workshop for you and ideal for someone who has done one of our 'Discovery Days' (above), NNAS Bronze Award, or is thinking of doing the NNAS Silver Award with us.

We'll refresh the 'five D's' of navigation (Destination, Direction, Distance, Duration and Detail), include compass work, contour interpretation, techniques such as 'aiming off', 'attack points', relocating and route planning.
You will be in a small group of no more than five participants plus your tutor
Courses are held in the Peak District, usually starting from Edale, Hope or Hathersage
Please bring your compass, map and waterproof map case for the workshop

Introduction to 'Night Navigation' - Peak District

Navigating at night is a great way to learn about route finding in poor visibility - it's both absorbing and fun, great for those who are improving their skills or are already at an intermediate or more advanced level. We'll show you the skills as we walk devising a route and sharing knowledge in a relaxed and informal group of no more than five participants plus your tutor.
