A popular trek with several different variations possible. We've helped numerous people with their training for Everest Base Camp treks.
South Base Camp is located in Nepal at an altitude of 5,364 metres. It's original purpose was that of a very basic camp site where mountaineers rested, and acclimatised to the altitude before attempting an ascent of Everest via the southeast ridge. It has now become a highly popular trekking destination in its own right.
Typical treks tend to be about 12 days, but you need to allow additional days for travel to and from the starting point. There are lots of variations, and options to extend your trip.
I’m 64 years old, retired, and only recently discovered the benefits of walking and a love of being outdoors. That began when I decided to set myself the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in memory of my brother who died of cancer. I wanted to do something out of my comfort zone and also to raise money for the hospice that cared for him.
The thrill of summiting and sense of achievement spurred me on to my next challenge...Everest Base Camp. To gaze upon the highest mountain in the world and be at her feet was something I just had to attempt!
I’m not naturally at home in rugged terrain as I live in an urban environment so getting the right kind of training has been paramount to achieving my goals.
I discovered Cath’s Peak Walking Adventures by searching the internet. From my first walk I felt that Cath provided the right balance of encouragement, advice, tough love, and confidence. Subsequent trek training weekends followed with the warmth, inspiration and camaraderie of fellow walkers. If you survive trek training with Cath then you can be assured that the real thing is in the bag! She is highly recommended if you are preparing for a challenge.
