A high level guided trek training walk as  part of a small group starting from Ambleside.  With many summits and magnificent views this horseshoe is one of the best in the district.

Distance:  18km/ 11 miles

Highest Point:  873m/2864ft 

Total Ascent:  1055m/3444ft

Approx. Time: 6-7 hours (dependent on party's overall pace)

 

The Route

Starting in the popular town of Ambleside, the route takes us via Rydal Hall onto the mountain of Fairfield (873m/2864), and back via the two ridges either side of the Rydal Beck.  It includes several other summits, including Nab Scar, Heron Pike, Great Rigg, Hart Crag, Dove Crag, and High Pike.  On a clear day, the views are amazing throughout the walk, with countless other mountains in the distance and elevated views of Lake Windermere and Rydal Water.

 

Please note: 

The route described may vary according to participants level of ability, progress and weather conditions. Please be aware that the terrain may be steep, hilly, rocky and boggy in places. Participants must be fit and able to complete a full day out on the hills and be comfortable walking all day with small breaks.

We meet at the Pay and Display car park on Rydal Road in Ambleside at 8.30am (postcode LA22 9AN ).
