Hayfield Horsehoe - Trek Training

The Churn it from Chinley Challenge Walk - view of Mount Famine and South View

2. Hayfield Horseshoe - Peak District.

Sunday 12 February 2023.

A guided trek training walk as part of a small group from Hayfield climbing high up onto Kinder Scout - big ascents but worth it for magnificent high views from one of the Peak District's quieter corners.

Make a weekend of it and join our Mam Tor and Kinder Scout Trek Training Walk on Saturday 11 February too!

Key Facts

Distance:  21km/13miles

Highest Point:  633m/2076ft

Total Ascent:  1108m/3635ft

Approximate Time: 8.5hrs (dependent on party's overall pace)

The Route

Starting from Bowden Quarry, just outside Hayfield, the route follows the path of the famous Mass Trespass and onto Kinder Scout.  The initial ascent up the rocky bed of William Clough steepens as we emerge onto the Pennine Way and climb up onto the Kinder Plateau at over 600m/2000ft.  Then it's a steep descent from Plateau's edge at Sandy Heys back down to Kinder Reservoir and across the valley.  Another sharp ascent brings us up onto the remote but beautiful Kinder Low End and up to our summit of the day, Kinder Low, at 633 metres/2076 feet.  It's back down to the valley before we climb again up onto the edge of Mountain Famine - a fantastic vantage point to look back at the Kinder Plateau and our day's achievement before we descend the gentler Pennine Bridleway, cooling down as we head back to Bowdon Quarry!

Please note:  The route described may vary according to participants level of ability, progress and weather conditions. Please be aware that the terrain maybe steep, hilly, rocky and boggy in places. Participants must be fit and able to complete a full day out on the hills and be comfortable walking all day with small breaks.

The cost to join this walk is £38 per person.  Please book and pay below.
