A guided trek training walk as part of a small group from Castleton, climbing up onto Mam Tor, Kinder Scout (the Peak District's highest plateau), and finally the Great Ridge - it's a great circuit of ascents and descents with wonderful views and varied terrain.
Distance: 17.8km/11 miles
Highest Point: 590m/1935ft
Total Ascent: 900m/2952 ft
Approximate Time: 7.5 hrs (dependent on party's overall pace)
Starting from Castleton Information Centre and car park, the route climbs out of the valley via the old broken road and Odin Mine onto Mam Tor. Our descent to the beautiful vale of Edale is followed by a less travelled route onto the Kinder Plateau via Golden Clough. We then follow the plateau edge to Ringing Roger, a collection of gritstone rocks and towers for an easy scramble, followed by our descent back to Edale. Our final climb of the day leads us to the Great Ridge and Back Tor, a wonderful place to view our day's walk and the surrounding countryside!
The route described may vary according to participants level of ability, progress and weather conditions. Please be aware that the terrain maybe steep, hilly, rocky and boggy in places. Participants must be fit and able to complete a full day out on the hills and be comfortable walking all day with small breaks.
The cost to join this walk is £38 per person. Please book and pay below.
We meet at the main car park in Castleton by the Tourist Information Centre and toilets at 8.45am to leave promptly for 9am. Details will be sent to you when you book.
