The Route
The route leaves the large free car park at the summit of the Kirkstone Pass, opposite the historic (and reputed to be haunted!) Kirkstone Inn, close to Ambleside. Our first ascent to Red Screes is on a good rocky path, where height is gained quickly to the summit cairn. The route then turns north over the delightful, less visited, top of Middle Dodd followed by an initial steep descent and level path to Brothers Water, a wonderful place! After passing through the sheep farming hamlet of Hartsop, it's time to climb over another of the many Lake District 'Dodds' - Hartsop Dodd. It's an easy ascent from here onto our final summit, Stony Cove Pike, followed by a 3.5 km descent to the Kirkstone Inn and our journey's end.
