The Dragon's Back - Trek Training

The Churn it from Chinley Challenge Walk - view of Mount Famine and South View

2. The Dragon's Back - Peak District

Sunday 3 April 2022.

A fabulous guided trek training walk as part of a small group from the village of Longnor. "The Dragon's Back" refers to the rocky peaks and connecting narrow ridges of Chrome and Parkhouse hill. This is Trek Training at it's best!

Key Facts

Distance:  13km/8miles

Highest Point:  426m/1398ft

Total Ascent: 752m/2466/ft

Approximate Time: 5.5hrs (dependent on party's overall pace)

The Route

Our trek training route leaves the village centre of Longnor (public toilets and refreshments) and follows a delightful valley path to the start of our first steep climb to the summit of High Wheeldon. After descending to the village of Earl Sterndale and over Hitter Hill, the fun really starts as we gain the slopes and reach the summit of Parkhouse Hill.  We then traverse the exciting narrow ridge (taking care to place our feet securely) and descend to a road before climbing Chrome Hill with its far reaching views and a chance to the view our journey over Parkhouse Hill. We relax after our 'ridge adventure' and enjoy our return route through Dowel Dale ascending the hills back to Longnor.

Please note:

The route described may vary according to participants level of ability, progress and weather conditions. Please be aware that the terrain maybe steep, hilly, rocky and boggy in places. Participants must be fit and able to complete a full day out on the hills and be comfortable walking all day with small breaks.

The cost to join this walk is £38 per person.  Please book and pay below.
